R-872
7.1 Dual Zone A/V
Receiver with HDMI 1.3
US$ 829.95
|
|
Both the R-872 and R-772 receivers are rated at 100 watts per channel for
each of their 7 channels and both share a host of common features including:
HDMI 1.3 switching; lossless audio decoding; AM/FM tuners with 30 presets;
XM radio ready; automatic set-up with supplied microphone;
Newcastle’s SNAPTM Room EQ; input renaming; A/V Synch Delay; digital/analog
input polling; independent audio and video outputs for Zone 2;
RS-232 port for bi-directional control and more.
The included remote supports dual-mode, RF and IR operation, is preprogrammed
for most popular components, learns commands from other units and both receivers
have built-in RF to IR translators.
The translator converts RF input received from the remote and generates
IR output to control other system components. Complete system operation is
possible—even if the entire system is out of sight.
A second feature developed for custom installation is these receivers'
“Automatic Room 2” mode. With this mode, the main room can be configured
for 7.1 channel operation.
When Zone 2 is activated, the main room is automatically reconfigured for
5.1 and the rear center amps are used to power Zone 2. When Zone 2 is turned
off, the main room is reconfigured back to 7.1.
An important feature for custom installation is the lockable Installer
Memory. Once the initial installation is complete, the installer or the
owner can lock all operating parameters into a special memory.
If the unit fails to operate as expected because a wrong button had
been selected on the remote, for example, power cycling the receiver will
reload the initial configuration and should restore normal operation.
While both units transcode all analog video to a single component video
output, the R-872 is extremely advanced. In keeping with the ease of use theme,
the R-872 uses a Genesis Faroudja processor IC and can deinterlace and
scale any of its video inputs, analog or digital, to 720p, 1080i or even
1080p and output them over HDMI.
Should the user wish to have his video operate primarily in the analog
domain, the R-872 will even convert digital video arriving over HDMI to
component video. In either the digital
or analog case, only a single monitor cable from the receiver to the display
is sufficient for video and OSD.

R-965
7.1 Channel A/V
Receiver with features for custom installation
US$ 1349.95
|
|
Both the R-965 and
R-865 receivers share a number of key technologies with the our top-of-the-line
home theater separate, the P-965:
High quality parts: With items like the Cirrus Crystal CS-49400 DSP processor,
Analog Devices AD-1852 DACs, AKMs AK-5380 A to D converters
and Analog Devices AD-1896 sample rate converter, performance nudges the
state-of-the-art.
Decoding: Both decode virtually every technology on the market including
Dolbys brand new DPL IIx. A longer list includes DTSES Discete and Matrix,
DTS 96/24, DTS-Neo 6, Dolby Digital Surround EX, Dolby Headphone Levels
1, 2, and 3 and more.
Field Upgradeable: In the fast moving audio world, its hard to keep up
with all the new advances. Both the R-965 and R-865 have upgradeable operating
systems. As new technologies emerge they can be added to keep these receivers
continually up-to-date.
Universal Video--upconverts composite and S-Video inputs to component
video output. Now you can intermix video components yet maintain only a single
connection to your TV or monitor.
Wide bandwidth Component video switching : performed by relays so there
is no bandwidth limitation imposed by our receivers.
Digital Remastering: CDs are recorded at 16-bits and 44.1 kHz. ReMaster
them to 24-bit and 192 kHz and improve their sound.
Advanced Room 2 operation: With independent program routing and control
for a second room, both receivers can serve as the nerve center for a whole
house audio/video system.
Both can be re-configured to power the second zone. They even have dedicated
control ports and remote controls for the second zone.
Control: Both receivers come with preprogrammed multi-unit remote controls
with LCD information windows to operate your entire system.
Our RNC-500, supplied with the R-965, P-965 and R-963 can even learn commands
from other remotes.
Our R-965 flagship receiver is identical to its more advanced parents
except for the necessary compromises due to the use of a single power supply
for
both the preamp and main amp sections and in its ultimate power capability.
(The R-865 has fewer inputs and outputs and sacrifices a dB or two in total
power, but suffers no loss in quality.)

A-965
1050 Watt 7 Channel
Main Amplifier
US$ 1049.95
|
|
The A-965 is a 7-channel,
80-pound, independent main amp designed specifically for low impedance
loads.
With a power supply that contains two huge toroidal power transformers
and the capability to unleash greater than a
kilowatt of output powerthe A-965 could easily be used as a poster boy
for the concept of High Current. But there is more
to this amp than brute force. Each channel, from gold-plated input
to heavy duty output, is built on a separate circuit board as
an independent mono block, a design which minimizes cross-talk (and facilitates
repair in the unlikely event that should become necessary).
The discrete circuitry utilizes PNP differential input, Darlington current
driver and parallel, pure-complementary, push-pull output. The results?
The A-965 has the delicacy to limit its Intermodulation Distorion to only
7 parts in 100,000 (0.007% IMD) yet with all channels driven,
the A-965 delivers 160 Watts x 7 at any combination of frequencies between
20 Hz and 20 kHz with less than 0.09% THD.Features

P-965
Tuner / Preamp
/ Processor
US$ 1349.95
|
|
Our first Newcastle
tuner/preamp/processor, the AVP-9080, garnered praise from the audio cognoscenti.
Lawrence Johnson,
Michael Fremer, Richard Hardesty, Jeff Cherun, Lawrence Ullman and Danny
Kumin all sang its praise. Some said they would buy it.
Some even did. Our P-965 improves upon the AVP in nearly every way. Crafted
from the finest hand-selected components and designed by
passionate audio engineers, its impressive decoding capabilities
include virtually all of todays best technologies including: DTS-ES Discrete
and Matrix; DTS 96/24, Dolby Digital EX and Pro Logic IIx; and Dolby Headphone
to name only a few. With a built-in phono section, the ability to
Re-Master CD sound to 192 kHz/24-bit, advanced Room-2 functionality;
three wide-bandwidth component video inputs for switching Hi Def TV
and two remote controls, the P-965 has the capability to satisfy todays
most ardent and advanced audiophile. And with the P-965s User Upgradability,
its probably one of the few pre-pros available today that will still
be called Advanced in a decade. When Widescreen Review tested its predecessor,
our AVP-9080, they said it,easily equals or betters the performance of
anything anywhere near its price range. Expect nothing less from the P-965.
