Beltronics Vector ProGX puts performance information at your fingertips.

The Beltronics Vector ProGX series isn't the first performance timer accelerometer on the market, but it is arguably the easiest to use. What an accelerometer is good for is measuring such good-to-know items as quarter-mile and 0-60 times, peak horsepower, performance, braking distance and G-force readings.

When you read such statistics in manufacturer handouts or magazines like this one, they have been determined under nearly ideal conditions. They don't really reflect your real world experience. So if you are simply curious about your vehicle's performance or if you have made some modifications to it, you may want to know how long it takes to reach 60 mph from a standing stop or what distance is required to stop when traveling at a specific speed. These are the types of numbers the Vector ProGX series can deliver.

When our ProGX2 arrived, we were a little skeptical about the promised ease of operation. Having used a competing accelerometer a year ago and found its operation more than a bit frustrating, we expected similar performance from the Beltronics box despite assurances from the company's marketing guru Ron Gividen to the contrary. He didn't overpromise. The ProGX2 works flawlessly and requires fewer instructions to operate than the automatic ventilation systems in most cars.

How easy is it to get a 0-60 time? Simply mount the unit to the center of the windshield, push the calibrate button, push the start button and step on the accelerator. When the vehicle reaches 60 mph, the time will flash on the easy-to-read screen. Gathering other info is equally as effort free. We have also found the results pretty consistent among several duplicated runs.

There are two ProGX units in the series and they perform the same functions. What separates the ProGX2 from the entry-level ProGX1 is its ability to store up to 10 times runs as well as its upgraded vacuum fluorescent blue screen rather than the GX1's LCD backlit one. The GX2 also has some redundant controls on the power cord and features download capability.

The suggested retail price of the Vector ProGX1 is $149.95; the Vector ProGX2 will set you back $249.95. To get the whole story, call 800-341-2288 or key up the Web at www.beltronics.com.
